Dbrand is now taking orders for a full enclosure that turns Valve's upcoming Steam Machine into a Portal Companion Cube, starting at $99.95 for a version that doesn't exist yet to house a piece of hardware that also doesn't exist yet. The deluxe tier is $129.95 and ships in late July, according to Dbrand's store. The cheaper 'Poverty Cube,' as Dbrand calls it, ships in October, per Steam Deck HQ.
This is not a vinyl skin. As VideoCardz reports, Dbrand describes it as a full enclosure with separate panels, screws, magnets, ventilation cutouts, and an LED pass-through slot so the Steam Machine's light bar remains visible through the front. The front panel is magnetic and removable for cleaning. The rear I/O stays unobstructed. Dbrand also includes two height profiles via reversible rubber feet. The $129.95 Companion Cube edition comes packaged in a collector's box that doubles as a Test Chamber diorama, along with a red button stand, a cake-themed suede cloth, and an orange-and-blue Portal-themed Steam Controller skin. The $99.95 Poverty Cube is the same enclosure in a plain cardboard box with none of the extras.
Valve has not confirmed a release date or a price for the Steam Machine. The device was originally planned for early 2026 before a global RAM shortage, driven largely by AI data center demand, forced a delay. Valve acknowledged the shortage in February, per Vice, and has since committed only to a summer 2026 window. As GameSpot reported on June 5, that window technically runs through September. Pricing is the other open question. The Steam Deck recently increased in price from $649 to $949, according to Vice, and the Steam Machine carries significantly higher specs. Multiple sources have suggested the Machine could land above $1,000 when it ships, though Valve has not confirmed any figure.
Dbrand is shipping a $130 case in late July for a piece of hardware with no confirmed release date and no confirmed price. The enclosure arrives before the machine it encloses.
